Responsibilities
Aims at developing and promoting the Omani IT industry and is responsible for
rolling out projects and initiatives aimed at community development and
transforming the Omani society into a digital society.
Industry Development

Implements business oriented projects targeted towards IT industry development
and creating a vibrant IT sector in Oman

Promotes the Omani IT sector and creates opportunities for Omani IT companies
inside and outside the Sultanate

Establishes links between private IT companies and the government aimed at
facilitating business and enabling the companies to grow

Attracts foreign investments in IT as well as foreign companies to establish
presence in Oman

Assists in creating new companies through an incubation program

Facilitates the creation of new Omani IT services and products

Runs initiatives aimed at promoting the transformation of companies to enable
e-business
E-Society Development

Runs capacity development programs at all levels aimed at eliminating IT
illiteracy and preparing the Omani society to embrace digital technologies

Runs specialized education, training and certification programs to cater for
specialized needs of the Omani IT industry and creates local IT expertise

Promotes providing the society with low priced broadband access in
collaboration with the TRA and the telecom providers

Promotes providing the society with a variety of devices to enable access to
electronic services to become connected

Develops plans for creating the necessary awareness programs to the community
in collaboration with the Information & Awareness division

Works with providers to enable developing and delivering e-services to the
community
