The Sultanate of Oman has been elected to be a member in the Intergovernmental Council for the Information for All Programme (IFAP) of UNESCO at the United Nations, represented by Mr. Omar Salem Al Shanfari, Deputy CEO, of the Information Technology Authority (ITA). The Sultanate recently participated in the seventh session of IFAP of UNESCO, which took place at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris. The election of Mr. Omar comes in recognition of the Sultanate’s efforts in developing the work of the program.
Oman participated in the seventh session as a member of IFAP, where it was elected for the council membership along with other 25 countries, during the 36th session of the General Assembly of UNESCO.
The Information for All Programme is an intergovernmental programme, created in 2000. Through IFAP, governments of the world have pledged to harness the new opportunities of the information age to create equitable societies through better access to information. The Programme concentrates its efforts on the five priority areas: Information for Development, Information Literacy, Information Preservation, Information Ethics and Information Accessibility.
