With the aim to learn more about the latest developments in the field of information technology and communication, the Sultanate participates in the Infocomm Media Business Exchange (imbX), the leading ICT exhibition and conference currently taking place in Singapore, from the 19-22 June 2012. HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Chairman of the Information Technology Authority (ITA) Board of Directors, heads the Sultanate's delegation at imbX. Prior to the launch of the imbX event, the delegation attended the Ministerial Forum on ICT, themed ‘ICT for Growth’. The event continues alongside the participation of other countries, private institutions, businessmen, and professionals specialized in the field of information technology and communication (ICT).

On the occasion, HE Eng. Ahmed bin Hassan Al Dheeb said: "The participation in this conference reflects the Sultanate's strong attention to ICT and to its desire to identify the modern technologies other countries have utilized in this vital area. These types of conferences offer the chance to see the latest developments in modern technology, because of the large participation and fruitful experiences which will be presented."

For his part, Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, Chief Executive Officer of the ITA, spoke about the importance of the conference: "The importance of the conference emerges from the discussion of two important themes, one of which is the co-operation in the field of cyber security, which has become a chief concern in the area of IT. Such co-operation is represented by the need to ensure preventative plans are in place to protect against cyber-attacks, thus creating a global network to protect from these attacks. A second theme of the imbX conference also discussed the issue of sustainable development for IT, by focusing on fully utilizing the domain of IT in an effort to provide job opportunities and develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in this area.”

While participating in the imbX 2012 exhibition and conference, the Sultanate’s delegation will also visit some IT centers, authorities and companies in order to find out more about the projects which they are implementing and how Oman can best benefit from them.
