
The Information Technology Authority (ITA) participated in the 10th meeting of the Executive Committee for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) eGovernment on Thursday 24 May 2012, in Doha, State of Qatar.
The one-day meeting witnessed the participation of heads of eGovernment programs and authorities in the GCC countries, as well as representatives from the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States. Leading the Sultanate's delegation was Dr. Salim Sultan Al Ruzaiqi, Chief Executive Officer of the ITA.

The Committee discussed a draft pilot GCC e-government strategy and also discussed the recommendations of the 2nd GCC e-government Gulf Conference held in Kuwait in November 2011, in addition to a number of other topics related to IT industry information and e-government.
Prior to the 10th Executive Committee meeting, a workshop was held on 22-23 May, hosted by the Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology in Qatar, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States.

Attended by specialists from the Information Technology Authority (ITA), participants in the workshop prepared the draft pilot GCC e-government strategy subsequently discussed in the Executive Committee meeting.
Also raised during the workshop were ideas regarding how best to prepare and formulate a vision and objectives of e-government for the GCC countries. This was the first meeting of the Committee following the recent adoption of its organizational structure and defined functions and powers by the Ministerial Committee for e-government.
