MTC Conducts Cybersecurity awareness “Train the Trainer” Workshop
The Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC) represented by Oman Computer Emergency Readiness Team (OCERT) organized “Train the Trainer” workshop in collaboration with Exceed Company. As part of the information security awareness program for government entities “Waay.” The workshop aims to qualify a number of Omani employees from different government entities so they can go back to their workplace and train their colleagues in different areas of cybersecurity. 50 employees from 40 government entities participated in the workshop.
The workshop focused on a number of important areas like cybersecurity, malwares, social engineering, information classification and privacy, and encryption. It also highlighted the safety and protection methods of Wi-Fi and wireless networks. In addition, it addressed cybercrimes that government entities may encounter like fraud, blackmail and hacking.
It is worth mentioning that the information security awareness campaign for government entities “Waay” is an MTC-OCERT initiative that was established in 2012 to build and enhance information security awareness and culture. It targets government employees and train them on dealing with information security incidents and reporting them to avoid risks and mitigate damage to ensure the continuity of operations and recovery from these incidents. It also highlights best security practices in the cybersecurity field. The program perpetuates OCERT’s role as a trusted call center that receives security incident reports and responds to them.
