MTCIT awards winners of 8th Oman summer of code 2020
The Ministry of Transport, Communications & IT awarded the winners of the eighth Oman Summer of code 2020 today in Knowledge Oasis, Muscat. The awarding ceremony was held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr.Ali Bin Amour Al-Shidhani, Undersecretary of Communications and IT for the ministry, and officials from the ministry.
The eighth Oman summer of Code saw 76 participants, 23 of whom were qualified, and nine projects for evaluation the finals. The jury panel selected the best three projects, and the incentive included a sum of money that amounted to 600 OMR given to every completed project. Small company establishment-conditioned financial support amounted to 1500 OMR was provided to every project to encourage the participants to progress and continue developing their projects.
In this version of the Code of Code, the participants managed to complete a set of projects, which serve many industries and institutions. Three projects passed the final evaluation, which is business workflow to facilitating decision making in companies and institutions, Ghabtiti App to plan and manage events, and all in one app for browsing Elibraries Ebook shops in Oman.
Oman code of summer is a national youth program in IT, adopted by MTCIT, targets Omani youth application developers to work on various projects using Free and Open Source software to develop applications functional in different work environments over three months. In addition to gaining exposure to real-world software development scenarios, participants walk through intensive training and orientation programs in FOSS and entrepreneurship while implementing the assigned projects. The participants have the right to develop projects that will empower Egovernment services or those that target the community.
