The Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology launches Sas48 Hackathon for green technologies

Today, Thursday, the sixth edition of the Sas48  Hackathon', organized by the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology under the theme of 'GreenTech,' under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer Al-Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with thetechnolgy partner (Omantel), the silver partner (OmanLNG ), (PDO ), and strategic partners (Environment Authority, Ministry of Agriculture,Fisheries wealth and Water Resources ,BE'AH, Salalah Port, Duqm Port, and the Logistics City).

 

The hackathon, which lasts for 48 hours, targets entrepreneurs and experts in the logistics, agriculture and food, renewable energy, environment, and related sectors. Teams will be formed to develop innovative solutions that utilize green technology to address various environmental issues such as improving routes and using electric vehicles to reduce fuel consumption, reducing carbon emissions through the use of energy-efficient devices and systems, accurately identifying plant water and nutrient needs to reduce resource consumption and increase productivity, and improving and tracking the food supply chain and quality management systems to reduce food waste and increase resource efficiency such as water, energy, and raw materials, and converting them into realistic and applicable models.

 

The Sas48  Hackathon' will provide an environment for participants to generate creative ideas and realistic innovative solutions with guidance and assistance from experts and mentors to overcome challenges they may encounter during their project development. The participating teams will then present their creative ideas to the judging panel, and the top three winning teams will be announced based on their performance in the final presentation at the closing ceremony.

 

Statistics:

The total number of applicants in theSas48  Hackathon' for the first time since its launch reached 1163 people, of which 120 were accepted to compete in the competition, with a male percentage of 48.6% and a female percentage of 51.4%. The majority of those accepted in the hackathon were entrepreneurs, accounting for 28.52%, followed by programmers and developers (17.18%), green technology experts (16.62%), marketers (15.5%), and finally designers (12.02%) and hardware designers and developers (10.16%).

 

In terms of geographical distribution of participants, Muscat Governorate ranked first in terms of the number of registrants in the Sas48Hackathon' competition, accounting for 56.31%, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate (12.52%), followed by Al Dakhiliyah Governorate (10.26%), while the remaining percentage (20.91%) was distributed among the other governorates of the Sultanate.
