With the participation of more than 200 experts in the aviation safety field, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology hosts the International Conference to Assist Victims of Aircraft Accidents and their Families
The conference “Assistance to Victims of Aircraft Accidents and their Families” was launched yesterday 08th May 24, hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, in cooperation with the "International Civil Aviation Organization"(ICAO) will continue until the end of the day under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, in the presence of His Excellency the Engineer, the Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, and a number of their Excellencies, with the participation of representatives of neighboring and friendly countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, and more than 200 participants and experts specialized in the aviation safety field. Moreover, investigations authorities from various countries of the world.
This conference coincided with the Fifth Meeting of Middle East North Africa Aircraft Accident and incident Investigation Regional Cooperation Mechanism (MENA ARCM/5) Committee, which was hosted on )7th of May, which aimed to introduce the local and international organizations that serve travelers by aircraft, and introduce the Sultanate of Oman and its prominent role in the aviation sector. The conference also aims to discuss the standards and requirements of the "International Civil Aviation Organization" and the responsibility of member states to fulfill their requirements regarding dealing with victims of aviation accidents and their families, and to discuss the Aviation sector entity roles in dealimg with the families of the victims and those missing during an accident.
The conference was opened with a speech delivered by Captain Majid bin Saif Al Barhi, in which he stated, “The Sultanate of Oman has been keen, since thesigning of the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation, to fulfill international standards and recommendations to ensure the application of the highest air safety standards to contribute to the development and prosperity of the aviation sector at the local and international levels.”
Captain Majid added, “due to the fulfillment of The Sultanate of Oman meets the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding the regulations and procedures governing the plan to assist aircraft accidents victims and their families, and with the aim of exchanging experiences between the member states of the organization and to benefit from the experience of the Sultanate of Oman in this field, the international organization recommended that the Sultanate of Oman to host this international conference.
The conference was attended by a wide participation of the public and private sectors and experts of aviation safety , in which several main topics were discussed, namely the standards and requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization and the responsibility and obligations of member states during air accidents, in addition to the role of the airlines operating the aircraft that resulted in the accident, and the role of the airports in which the accident occurred. The role of investigation authorities in clarifying and informing families about the progress of the investigation, the tasks and roles of the institutions concerned in identifying the victims and injured, and how to deal with the victim’s families and missing persons during the accident.
