Launching of the Virtual Tour Service in Oman
Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Nasser Al Zaabi, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, in collaboration with the National Survey Authority (NSA) for geospatial information and Google company , Launching the first phase of the Virtual Tour project in the Sultanate of Oman. This initiative seeks to empower users worldwide to virtually explore Oman’s natural landscapes, historical landmarks, and modern infrastructure through an immersive experience.
During the event, the importance of the project and its role in enhancing Oman’s digital presence were emphasized. Its potential impact on various sectors, such as tourism and business development, was also highlighted. The event featured a virtual demonstration, allowing attendees to explore select landmarks and natural attractions in Oman. Additionally, the second phase of the project was outlined, aiming to expand coverage to more sites and landmarks by 2025.
The first phase covers several selected locations, including Khor Rori, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The imagery was captured using specialized “Trekkers” devices, covering an area of approximately 36,000 kilometers.
This launch reflects Oman’s commitment to innovation and digital accessibility, further cementing its status as a culturally and naturally rich tourist destination. The initiative marks a significant step in enhancing Oman’s global digital presence, providing an opportunity for the world to discover its unique treasures.
Plans are underway to expand the project in the coming year, aiming to include additional sites and landmarks and offer a more comprehensive view of Oman’s stunning natural diversity and cultural richness.
